The legendary David Lloyd (Bumble), England captain 1973 to 1977, and Graeme “Foxy” Fowler, a former English professional cricketer, were both born in Accrington and have both played for Accrington Cricket Club in years previous. Other notable well-known cricketers include: David Lloyd’s son, Graham Lloyd, who has played for Accrington, Lancashire and England under his belt, David Ormerod – a Lancashire League legend with over 1000 wickets –  Nathan Astle, Bobby Simpson, Eddie Barlow and Shane Warne.

David Lloyd commented:

“I think it’s a great chance for a local business to become involved with the local sporting community. It’s rare opportunities like this pop up in Accrington. I remember my days playing for Accrington Cricket Club with fondness; the memories I made there were incredible and the sponsors involved are a huge part in creating those memories.”

The club has a history of impressive league wins and achievements, most recently winning the Lancashire League in 2013, breaking many long-standing club records.

Initiatives are currently in place as a means to motivate the younger generation of Accringtonians to become more active and involved within the community and with sport.

Rod Kenyon, cricket Chairman with a 50-year history of commitment, said:

“It’s great to see youngsters taking an interest in Cricket. Here at Accrington Cricket Club we’re keen to encourage, coach and support them – if anyone would like to get involved they should ask their parents to bring them along – they’ll be very welcome. I have had a long love of sport in Accrington be it getting one of Accrington Stanley’s first sponsorship deals in 1985 with M+F components through to 33 years later looking for a shirt sponsor for Accrington Cricket Club.”

Accrington Cricket Club are looking to the future and are hoping to gain interest for shirt sponsorship to cover the next three years. A flexible deal is also on offer where people can include the sponsorship of advertising boards at the ground, programme advertising, season tickets and the use or hire of the clubhouse and bar for hospitality and functions.

Sponsors will have a fantastic opportunity to have their brand/logo seen by a large number of people throughout the year as the club play host to numerous events that attract thousands in a season plus T.V. and Sky coverage.

With big plans for the future, the view to hosting more events and the introduction of future generations to the club, the only way is up for Accrington Cricket Club. Now would be the perfect time for Accrington-based businesses to get involved and support their local sports clubs.

Enquiries from local businesses are invited now for the 2018 season starting in March.
