The #AmazingAccrington Food & Drink Festival returned in style on Saturday, drawing over 10,000 visitors into the town centre for a spectacular celebration of food, drink and entertainment.
Crowds packed the streets throughout the day, enjoying an incredible range of local and regional food, drink, artisan and craft stalls while soaking up the vibrant atmosphere that has made the festival one of Lancashire’s most anticipated events.
From local favourites to international flavours, there was something to tempt every tastebud, with visitors travelling from across the region to experience the bustling festival.
One of the highlights of this year’s event was the brand-new Taste of Hyndburn Tent, which showcased some of the borough’s finest food and drink businesses. Visitors were able to sample a fantastic selection of local produce, including offerings from the special Series of Silence gin bar, celebrating the very best of Hyndburn’s food and drink sector.
Meanwhile, Broadway’s popular continental market brought flavours from around the world to the heart of Accrington, creating a truly international experience for visitors.
The packed programme of entertainment ensured there was something for everyone, with live cooking demonstrations from Dunkenhalgh Head Chef Sean Noonan and TV favourite Punk Chef proving hugely popular. Visitors also enjoyed live music, nostalgic 1940s entertainment, family activities including a free apple giveaway on Accrington Market, and funfair rides throughout the day.
Adding an extra kick to the festivities was the brand-new Chilli Challenge, which brought plenty of excitement and laughter as brave participants tested their tastebuds against some seriously fiery flavours.
The festival also provided an opportunity for reflection and remembrance, with visitors joining special commemorations marking the 82nd anniversary of D-Day. Activities included a parade and service, military displays and historical re-enactments, creating a fitting tribute to those who served.
Councillor Munsif Dad, Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, said: “What a fantastic day for Accrington and Hyndburn. The town centre was buzzing with people enjoying the food, entertainment and attractions throughout the day. It was wonderful to see so many visitors supporting the event and helping create such a wonderful atmosphere.”
Murray Dawson, Chair of #AmazingAccrington and Managing Director of Scott Dawson Advertising, said: “The new Taste of Hyndburn Tent was a fantastic showcase for the incredible food and drink talent we have across the borough. It was great to see so many people enjoying the market, entertainment and everything the festival had to offer. Thank you to everyone who came along and supported us, it was a great day for all.”
The event was sponsored by Hyndburn Borough Council, Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa and Financial Affairs, and organised by Scott Dawson Advertising.
