For one night only, on Wednesday 4th July, Accrington and Rossendale College will become Rydell High, as they hold their very first drive-in screening of the classic film Grease to celebrate its 40th anniversary!

Ben Anforth, Lewis Waston, Jordan Jackson, Conner Neil, Gemma Peel, Courtney Dowsing, Chloe Devers and Adrianne Doolin. Students in Hair and Media Makeup at Accrington and Rossendale College.

In keeping with the 70’s classic, where characters Danny and Sandy go to a drive-in to watch The Blob, the giant outdoor screens ‘lightning’ up the night sky will ensure the event is set to go down a storm.

  • Gates will be open at 8 pm so guests can enjoy the college’s catering facilities
  • The film will be screened at 9:30 pm onwards

‘Drive-in screening’ is exactly what it says on the tin! The film will be shown outdoors, where people can simply drive in, park up, tune their radio into the audio, sit back and relax to watch the film. Or, if you want to channel your inner John Travolta / Danny, you can take your spot on the roof/bonnet of your car!

Grease will be shown on the grounds of the college with catering available on-site. Visitors will have the option of ‘in-car service’, where you will be able to download an app and order freshly cooked food directly to your car!

Catering students from the college will be making a selection of 50’s American Diner style cuisine in the Roots Restaurant including hotdogs, burgers and fries  – people will also have a choice of beverages to choose from including soft drinks, milkshakes and drinks served in plastic glasses.

Students in the Hair and Beauty departments will be available throughout the day at Seasons Salon to create 50s style hair and makeup looks for people wishing to come to the screening in Grease fancy dress – which is hugely encouraged!

Charlotte Scheffmann, Assistant Principal at Accrington and Rossendale College, commented:

“We are thrilled to be hosting an exclusive drive-in screening of Grease! We will be offering something fun, new and exciting to the town which we really hope people come and support. The catering students at the college are looking forward to getting involved – providing visitors with some great food and showcasing what they can do and what they have learned at the college.”

Due to the limited spaces (120 cars) pre-booking is essential. Prices start at £25 for a standard family car.
