To coincide with the reopening of Highstreets, Hyndburn’s flag has been flown for all to see. The #ThinkHyndburn campaign has seen townships taken over with banners, flags and signs – marking the start of the next phase for Hyndburn.

Cllr Miles Parkinson, OBE, Leader of Hyndburn Council said:

“Closures and adaptations due to the Covid-19 pandemic has meant small businesses have been hit hard in recent months. As our nation progresses on the roadmap to recovery, set out by Central Government, shops are now able to open their doors once again to welcome people back.

Now is the time to use these shops, support local businesses and champion our borough. If we all work together our local economy can recover and thrive. We need to see a shift in mindset, everything you need can be bought in Hyndburn – by choosing local businesses you are supporting workers, families and our community. This is what the campaign is about, encouraging people to think of the big picture, think about Hyndburn and shop locally”

Sara Britcliffe, MP for Hyndburn and Haslingden:

“We are not only harnessing the power of collaborating with local businesses but welcoming all Hyndburn residents to get involved too. Through sharing your local purchases on social media, letting friends, neighbours and family know about shops and service, everyone can play a part.

In recent months the strength of Hyndburn has shone, people have come together to form the Hyndburn Hub support network, volunteered their time and put other’s wellbeing first. The Hub is still here in our community, for anyone who should need it – the next step is safely reopening our economy and we need everyone’s support in this. If people do not use the local businesses, they will inevitably lose them from our highstreets.”

Cllr Marlene Haworth, Leader of the Opposition:

Myself, Miles and Sara have been working collaboratively for the interests of the borough. The ‘Think Hyndburn’ campaign aims to showcase the local offering and also reassure shoppers that all measures are firmly in place to safely use these shops and services. The Market Hall and shops throughout Hyndburn have been working hard to adapt and adjust, with being ‘covid-secure’ as their priority.

We are looking forward to people rediscovering Hyndburn shops and also hoping those who maybe haven’t before ventured into the various towns in Hyndburn will take the opportunity to explore and support local businesses. I can say with confidence that our townships are clean, safe and ready for business.”

The ‘Reopening High Streets Safely Fund’, awarded by Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and The European Regional Development Fund will allow this campaign to continue throughout 2020, encouraging shoppers back to the Highstreet and helping businesses to reopen.

Hyndburn Borough Council’s Environmental Health/Food Officers have been hard at work ensuring all businesses have the necessary information and tools to reopen safely. This signposting and support network will continue and evolve to also assist businesses in showcasing their offerings through access to free toolkits and webinars, exclusively for Hyndburn.
