A butcher who trained in Accrington and went on to work as a chef at some of the area’s well-known establishments is returning to his roots with an exciting new business at Accrington Market.

Lee Holden is preparing to open Holden & Son, Chop House & Deli at the newly renovated Accrington Market, bringing premium British meats, artisan charcuterie and a taste of Cuba to the town.

Lee has worked in the food industry since 2006, initially training as a butcher in Accrington before moving into the hospitality industry, spending the last five years as a chef.

During his time as a chef, he worked at well-known local establishments including The Hapton Inn and The Aspinall Arms.

Now, with the help of his Cuban wife Lily, Lee is combining his butchery experience and culinary skills to launch his own business, bringing something different to Accrington Market.

Holden & Son Chop House will offer a traditional butcher’s experience, specialising in premium British meat, including thick-cut chops, prime dry-aged steaks and everyday family favourites.

The business will focus on quality, expertly sourced meat and nose-to-tail butchery, with a wide selection of beef, pork and poultry available.

Alongside the butcher’s counter, Holden & Son Deli will offer a range of artisan charcuterie and continental cured meats, including prosciutto, Spanish chorizo and air-dried beef bresaola.

Customers will also be able to choose from olives and gourmet accompaniments, perfect for creating grazing boards or enjoying something different for lunch.

Lee will be preparing his own pastrami and curing meats from scratch, with one of the highlights of the deli set to be a Cuban sandwich, made with in-house cured pork, Swiss cheese and pickles, served on soft ciabatta bread.

Lee Holden said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to get going! Accrington Market is such an exciting project and it’s been fantastic to see the space and what it’s going to become. Having trained as a butcher in Accrington, it means a lot to be opening my own business here, and I can’t wait to bring some Cuban flavour to the market alongside everything we’ll be offering at the chop house and deli.”

Cllr Clare Pritchard, Hyndburn Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Transformation and Town Centres, said: “It’s fantastic to see a local lad who trained as a butcher in Accrington now opening his own business at Accrington Market. Lee has some really exciting plans for Holden & Son, and it’s great to welcome another independent business bringing something different to the newly renovated market.”

Holden & Son, Chop House & Deli will be another exciting addition to Accrington Market, combining traditional butchery with a modern deli offering and a unique Cuban influence.
