Education and Childcare star Tierney Grieves has described the practitioner job she has walked straight into from Accrington and Rossendale College as “absolutely brilliant”.

Tierney, from Haslingden, is now working full time at Green House Farm Nursery – having gained an A grade in her Education and Childcare Diploma.

The foundation for her employment was laid during a College visit to the nursery as part of the curriculum last summer. Tierney made quite an impression during the trip on the nursery’s manager, who encouraged her to keep in touch, before inviting her back for an interview.

Tierney, formerly of Haslingden High School, said: “I’m loving my job, it’s absolutely brilliant. I enjoy the interaction with children and it’s a great place to work.

“I’m very happy to receive my results – the qualification I have achieved on my course has put me in the right direction to follow my dreams in childcare as a qualified practitioner.

“I really enjoyed my time at Accrington and Rossendale College too, as I have been able to learn new skills, create amazing friendships and I had the best tutors to help guide me and support me along my journey.

“My time at College has also helped me to overcome my worries and has given me the determination needed to become an Early Years Practitioner.

“I would definitely recommend Accrington and Rossendale College to other people, as they offer a wide range of courses for everyone and the tutors help to provide each student with the right support for each individual.”

Following a successful merger in 2018, Accrington and Rossendale College is now led by Nelson and Colne College, one of the highest performing colleges in the country.

Students attending this College can now expect to receive the same quality that is offered at its sister college – including phenomenal teaching, strong industry links, extensive wraparound support and outstanding facilities, following a £4million redevelopment.

For classroom achievement, at all ages and levels, Accrington and Rossendale College now places in the top five colleges nationally. It is also a top 10 college nationally for student satisfaction, and now sits with its partner Nelson and Colne College as number one in Lancashire for 16-18 Advanced Apprenticeships.
