There were smiles all round at Accrington Market as four lucky winners picked up fantastic prizes following two popular competitions.
The giveaways helped create an extra buzz around the Accrington Market cabins during August, with a special prize draw held to coincide with the #AmazingAccrington Soapbox Challenge, followed by a social media competition which attracted more than 400 entries and an impressive 27,000 views.
Shoppers who purchased the Market cabins on Friday, 28th or Saturday, 29th August received a free raffle ticket, giving them the chance to win one of three prizes.
The competition added to the excitement of the #AmazingAccrington Soapbox Challenge on the Saturday, one of the biggest days in Accrington’s events calendar, while encouraging visitors to call into the cabins, discover the traders and shop locally.
Taking home the top prize was Sharon Morris, who won a £100 voucher to spend at Accrington Market when the newly refurbished Market reopens later this year.
Philip Rushton won afternoon tea for two at the Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa, while Eddie Haworth won tickets to watch Accrington Stanley.
The celebrations didn’t stop there, with Accrington Market also teaming up with Hoskin’s Cheese for a special social media giveaway during August.
The chance to win a mouth-watering cheese hamper proved a big hit, generating 27,000 views and more than 300 entries.
Lucky winner Alison Hargreaves took home a fantastic hamper packed with delicious cheeses alongside a selection of products available from Hoskin’s Cheese, including chutneys, biscuits and other treats.
Alison was presented with her prize by Hoskin’s Cheese owner Sarah.
Cllr Clare Pritchard, Hyndburn Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Transformation and Town Centres, said: “A huge congratulations to Sharon, Philip, Eddie and Alison. It’s fantastic to see our shoppers getting involved and walking away with some brilliant prizes.
“There has been a real buzz around the Accrington Market cabins, particularly during the Soapbox Challenge, and it’s great to see initiatives like this encouraging people to visit, support our traders and shop locally.
“We can’t wait to see that buzz continue into the newly refurbished Accrington Market when it opens later this year. It’s an incredibly exciting time for the Market, its traders and the town centre as a whole.”
