Families across Hyndburn are being invited to enjoy a packed programme of Easter activities at Accrington Market, combining seasonal fun with a strong message to support local businesses.
A special Easter Trail, organised by Hyndburn Borough Council, will run from Saturday 28th March to Saturday 11th April, encouraging children and families to explore the wide range of traders based in the market cabins on Accrington town square.
Competition booklets are being distributed to local schools, inviting children under 12 to take part in the challenge. 200 free Easter eggs will also be handed out as part of the trail.
Participants will be tasked with visiting 15 participating market stalls, including Bramwells, Pet Mart, Medina Mobile, Bubble Star, Frances Perfumes and Sunglasses, Arthur Banks Tool Stall, E.A. Electrical T/A Fancy Goods, Illusion Ladies Wear, Essentials, Jass Workwear, Hoskin’s Cheese, Jass Jeans, Accrington Mobility and Furniture, Angie’s Happy Cluckers and Smiths Fresh Produce.
Each stall will feature a unique stamp containing a letter, which children must collect in their booklet.
Once all 15 letters have been gathered, along with a hidden letter displayed on the window of Accrington DOME, participants must solve an Easter-themed anagram. Completed entries can then be submitted into the entry boxes at any of the participating stalls, where 200 free Easter eggs will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
There are also exciting prizes to be won, including a giant Easter bunny, a giant chocolate egg and #ShopLocal cash prizes.
The Easter Trail will highlight the fantastic range of products and fresh produce on offer at the Accrington Market cabins, which are very much open for business whilst Accrington Market Hall is under renovation.
The celebrations continue on Easter Saturday (4th April), when two FREE funfair rides will be available on Accrington town square from 10 am-2 pm for children under 12. Families are encouraged to enjoy the rides while taking part in the trail and supporting local traders.
In addition, three free Easter bonnet-making workshops will take place between 10 am and 1 pm in one of the market pods on Easter Saturday (4th April). Each workshop is limited to 12 children (U12S only), with places expected to fill quickly.
Families are encouraged to book early via Eventbrite to avoid disappointment: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/easter-bonnet-making-workshops-tickets-1985732496351
Cllr Clare Pritchard, Portfolio Holder for Transformation and Town Centres for Hyndburn Borough Council, said: “This is a fantastic way to bring families together for some Easter fun while also supporting our incredible local traders. Events like this not only create memorable experiences for children, but also help encourage people to #ShopLocal and discover everything Accrington Market has to offer during the Easter holidays.”
Steve Bramwell, Co-Owner of Bramwells, said: “It’s good for the market, it’s good for the kids to come along and get involved with the market trail, which will also educate them a little bit about the fact that things don’t always grow on supermarket shelves.
“There’s everything you need down here, you’ve got your egg stall, cheese stall, groceries, fish and an abundance of electrical and fancy goods, so get yourselves down here and support it. The Council seem to be doing their best at the moment, so let’s join in with them.”
Funding for this event has been provided by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
