Accrington Stanley supporters are coming together in a remarkable show of unity and passion after the club’s iconic Clayton End flags were lost following the theft of the van they were being stored in.
The colourful flags, a familiar and much-loved sight on matchdays in the Farleys Solicitors Clayton End, have long helped create the unique atmosphere that makes supporting Stanley so special. In response to the loss, fans have launched a fundraising campaign to replace the stolen flags and bring the vibrant display back stronger than ever for next season.
A GoFundMe page set up by supporter Dale McCartney aims to raise £1,600 towards replacing around £3,000 worth of flags. The campaign has already received tremendous backing from supporters and local business leaders alike, with donations currently standing at more than £1,300.
Dale McCartney said: “We all appreciate your generosity immensely and we just want to make the Clayton End more colourful next season and get behind the lads and with your guys help we can make it louder and prouder too. Thank you!”
Peter Leatham, Chair of the Official Accrington Stanley Supporters Trust, who have donated £500 to the cause, added: “It’s been tough seeing the flags stolen, especially when they contribute so much to the unique atmosphere at Accrington Stanley matches. The Clayton End is known for its colour, noise and passion, and these flags have become a real symbol of that support. The response from fans and the wider community has been fantastic and really shows what this club means to people.”
The fundraising effort has become another example of the incredible spirit that surrounds Accrington Stanley, with supporters determined to ensure the Clayton End remains one of the most vibrant and passionate areas in League Two.
