A gothic thriller book series brought to life with gin, ghosts and a real Victorian manor is coming to Accrington next month.
Accrington DOME will host a one‑night‑only Series of Silence takeover on Thursday 26 March, blending a live book reading with a guided tasting of Moorside Craft Gin, the official spirit of the series. The free event starts at 6 pm and turns the DOME into an extension of Moorside House, the real Lancashire manor where the stories are set and where the authors live and write.
Across the evening, co‑author Heath Groves will read chilling extracts from the first two books, The Silence We Hide and The Silence We Share, sharing how a home invasion, a cursed basalt statue and a century of secrets grew into a ten‑book gothic saga.
Guests will be able to ask questions, get their copies signed and explore how the fiction loops back into the real house, its history and the wider Moorside universe.
The night also showcases Moorside Craft Gin – a London dry distilled in Lancashire with juniper, bright citrus and a lingering liquorice‑and‑cinnamon finish – created in collaboration with Brindle Distillery as the “official pour” of the Series of Silence.
Attendees can sample the gin, buy bottles on the night and pair it with the books for the full “read by candlelight, sip by gin” experience.
Set in and around Moorside House in Altham, Accrington, the Series of Silence pulls real history, including the childhood home of suffragist Lydia Becker, into a modern gothic thriller about family, guilt and a house that will not let go.
The Accrington DOME event runs alongside a special exhibition on Lydia Becker’s life and legacy, giving visitors a chance to step from the pages of the novels into the real history that shaped them.
Only 30 places are available (18+). Tickets are free but must be reserved in advance via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/book-reading-and-gin-tasting-at-accrington-dome-tickets-1983273170441
Speaking ahead of the Accrington DOME event, author Heath Groves said: “It’s always fantastic to meet readers face-to-face and hear their thoughts about the story and the characters.
“Being able to talk about the inspiration behind The Series of Silence and share that experience with them makes it even more special. The Moorside Craft Gin was a massive hit at Oswaldtwistle Mills, so we’re really looking forward to bringing that same atmosphere and flavour to Accrington DOME.
“We have a busy few months coming up, with more book reading and gin tasting events planned in at independent bookshops, from London to Edinburgh, while we are also attending five gin festivals.”
