Local musician and lifelong Accrington Stanley fan Maelor Hughes has released a powerful new club anthem, ‘Stanley Til We Die’, with 40% of the song’s royalties going directly to Accrington Stanley to support the club during a financially challenging period.
The track, available to download now https://maelorhughes.bandcamp.com/music – is a rousing celebration of the club’s proud history and passionate community. Supporters are being encouraged to download the song ahead of Saturday’s home game against Grimsby Town and learn the lyrics so it can be sung from the stands at the Wham Stadium.
In what promises to be a special moment for both club and fans, Maelor will lead the teams out alongside his three children as the new anthem plays over the stadium’s PA system.
Maelor, a Stanley supporter for over 20 years, is a familiar face among the Accrington Stanley Ultras, often seen banging the drum in the Farleys Solicitors Clayton End. Known for his energetic take on folk music, he was approached by club CEO Warren Eastham earlier this year to create an original anthem for the club – a song that could become part of the matchday experience for years to come.
Recorded and written in Accrington, ‘Stanley Til We Die’ is the latest in a growing list of Stanley-inspired songs by Maelor, following fans favourite ‘I Am a Stanley Fan’. With a blend of melodic folk and uplifting energy, the song captures the soul of the club and the unity of its supporters.
Accrington Stanley CEO, Warren Eastham, said: “We approached Maelor because we knew he understood what this club means to the fans, and he’s delivered something really special. That 40% of the royalties from the song will go directly to supporting the club shows just how committed he is to Stanley. It’s a brilliant example of our community coming together, and every single download will make a difference.”
Maelor said: “I’m incredibly proud to be working with the club on this project. When Warren got in touch and asked if I’d be up for writing a new anthem, I jumped at the chance. Accrington Stanley has been a huge part of my life for 20 years, so to be able to contribute something like this, something that brings fans together and supports the club at the same time, means the world to me.”
Maelor’s musical roots run deep. From early record deals and performances alongside artists such as Bez (Happy Mondays), The Levellers, Seth Lakeman, and The South, to his role as a key organiser of Ossyfest, music and community have always gone hand in hand for the Accrington artist. His family has strong musical ties too – his uncle’s band ‘Weather’ once supported The Beatles.
