On Saturday 5th May 2018, Accrington Town Centre came alive with thousands of people visiting the town for a brand-new event: #AmazingAccrington – Live!

Children spent the morning being entertained by Mr Tickles and Mr Red before celebrity acts Tabitha Jade, Ella Shaw and Christian Burrows, joined by local talent and competition winners Alex Brierley, Claudia Thompson and LDMP, took to the stage to provide a fun-filled day of live music.

The event was organised by Scott Dawson Advertising in partnership with Hyndburn Borough Council. Murray Dawson, Managing Director at Scott Dawson Advertising and Chairman of the #AmazingAccrington initiative, said:

“It was a fantastic day. A huge part of the #AmazingAccrington initiative is to showcase what Accrington has to offer and to open the festival up for local acts to perform was a fantastic way to do this. It’s important to increase footfall in Accrington and to get the tills ringing for shopkeepers and having thousands of people in the town on one day is guaranteed to do that.”

The event was sponsored by local company Langtec as well as Accrington and Rossendale College.

Andrew Turner, Managing Director at Langtec, said:

“We are really proud to have sponsored the music festival. As a business, we export throughout the world but always promote #AmazingAccrington at every chance so we’re keen to be involved in anything that showcases the skills of people in the town. The day was a great success; all of the performers were incredible.”

Charlotte Scheffmann, Assistant Principal of Accrington and Rossendale College, said:

“The college is really invested in supporting the community and events that happen in the town – forming and maintaining relationships with local people and local businesses is important to us and I think sponsoring events that bring the two together is beneficial. We were incredibly proud to see one of the undergraduate students, Alex Brierley, performing at the music festival on Saturday.”

Miles Parkinson, Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, commented:

“The #AmazingAccrington initiative is really showcasing the skills and talent of local people and businesses. It was a fantastic event in Accrington for bank holiday weekend. Families were enjoying it and the sheer volume of people attending is a testament to how great of a day it was. I’m looking forward to the next one!”
