Town & District Transport Trust (TDTT) is recruiting volunteers to join its thriving and passionate operation in Great Harwood, offering a unique opportunity for local people to get involved with the preservation and restoration of historic buses and vehicles.

The volunteer-led organisation is appealing to anyone with an interest in heritage transport, particularly those with skills in painting, bodywork, mechanics or welding. Semi-retired individuals looking to put their experience to good use in a rewarding and sociable environment are especially encouraged to apply.

However, previous experience is not essential. TDTT is keen to hear from enthusiastic individuals who are willing to learn, with training opportunities available for roles including sanding and preparing vehicles for restoration.

Volunteers will play an active role in the Trust’s work and will have the chance to attend events and enjoy memorable days out across the country as part of the team.

TDTT cares for a large collection of heritage and modern vehicles, preserving them for future generations to enjoy. Alongside ongoing restoration projects, the Trust attends events nationwide and hosts its own popular community celebration.

The Great Harwood Transport Weekend will return on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September this year, promising an impressive display of cars and trucks, family entertainment, stalls, food and drink, and much more. The event has become a highlight in the local calendar, attracting visitors from across the region.

In addition to showcasing and restoring vehicles, TDTT plays an important role in supporting the wider community. The Trust assists other organisations and local events by providing free transport to community celebrations and runs a free bus service on Christmas Day, helping families visit loved ones. The organisation is also passionate about educating younger generations about the history of transport and travel in years gone by.

Ian Amarnani of Town & District Transport Trust said, “We’re really excited to welcome new volunteers to the team. We’re looking for people who can bring skills and experience that add something to our operation, whether that’s mechanical knowledge, bodywork, painting or welding. But just as importantly, we’re very happy to train enthusiastic people who are keen to get involved and learn. It’s a fantastic way to meet like-minded people, be part of something special and help preserve an important part of our transport heritage.”

Anyone interested in volunteering with TDTT can apply by emailing info@tdtt.co.uk or by calling 07470 477 875.
