Accrington Stanley’s hugely popular big shirt giveaway will return for a very special 10th edition this November, with over a thousand local schoolchildren set to receive their own Stanley shirt.
More than 10,000 replica shirts have been handed out to Year 3 pupils from primary schools across the local area since the club first launched the initiative, helping to create a lasting connection between young people and their hometown football club.
The 10th shirt giveaway will take place at the Wham Stadium on Tuesday 24th November, with Year 3 pupils from 41 local primary schools being personally invited to attend by Accrington Stanley CEO Warren Eastham.
During their visit, the youngsters will have the opportunity to meet Accrington Stanley’s first-team squad, who will present them with their brand-new Stanley shirts.
This year’s shirts will be sponsored by Wham, Hyndburn Borough Council, Accrington Stanley Community Trust and the Official Accrington Stanley Supporters Trust (OASST).
Every child attending will also receive a free goodie bag, while each school will have a professional class photograph taken inside the Eric Whalley Family Stand by Scott Dawson Advertising, giving pupils another special memento of their day at the Wham Stadium.
The initiative aims to inspire children across Hyndburn to get involved in sport, lead active lifestyles and feel a real connection with their local EFL League Two club from an early age.
Accrington Stanley CEO Warren Eastham said: “It’s incredible to think that we are preparing to hold our shirt giveaway for the 10th time.
“Andy Holt has said many times that it is one of the best things we do at the club, and I have to agree. More than 10,000 children have received an Accrington Stanley shirt through the initiative, which is incredible.”
Accrington Stanley Supporter Liaison Officer, Robert Houseman, who leads the club’s engagement with local schools, said: “It’s always a brilliant occasion seeing so many youngsters at the Wham Stadium, meeting the players and receiving their own Stanley shirt. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back and do it all over again this November!”
