Accrington Stanley will pay tribute to the nation’s Armed Forces and all those who have served their country this Saturday, as the Reds host Northampton Town in a special Remembrance fixture at the Wham Stadium.
The club will mark the occasion with a series of commemorative tributes ahead of the 3pm kick-off, bringing together players, supporters and the wider community to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
The world-famous Accrington Pipe Band will play a central role in the pre-match proceedings, piping the Royal British Legion flag bearers and both teams onto the pitch.
Supporters will also come together for a special display of poppies, organised by the Official Accrington Stanley Supporters Trust (OASST), creating a fitting visual tribute to those who have served their country.
Special Remembrance-themed corner flags, also arranged by the OASST, will provide a further mark of respect throughout the afternoon.
The OASST has also commissioned a special limited-edition pin badge to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the Accrington Pals.
The commemorative badge brings together two important parts of the town’s history, recognising the connection between the 11th (Service) Battalion, The East Lancashire Regiment (Accrington), and Accrington Stanley Football Club.
Supporters will be able to purchase the limited-edition badges on matchday from the OASST table in Coley’s and in the fan zone.
Accrington Stanley CEO Warren Eastham said: “Remembrance is such an important occasion for our club and our community, and it’s a privilege to come together to honour those who have served and sacrificed so much. Accrington has a proud military history, and Saturday gives us an opportunity to pay our respects and remember those who gave their lives for our country.”
The commemorations will also include a moment of reflection ahead of kick-off, giving players, officials and supporters the opportunity to pay their respects to all those who have served, both past and present.
The occasion holds particular significance for Accrington, with the town’s proud military heritage and the enduring legacy of the Accrington Pals continuing to hold an important place in the local community.
The club will also host a special Remembrance service at the Wham Stadium on Sunday, 8th November at 12:45pm, with members of the public invited to attend.
The service will take place at the Accrington Pals Memorial Garden and will include a wreath-laying ceremony to honour those who have lost their lives in service.
