The first fixture of the season for Accrington Stanley Women sees them play another founder member of the football league, Preston North End on Sunday, 21st August at 2pm at the Ruby Civil Arena in Padiham, for the first time. Both clubs form part of the ‘Original Twelve’ founding members of the Football League, and have a rich footballing history. The teams now play in the North West Women’s Regional Football League Division One North.

Kelly-Ann Groves, Chair of Accrington Stanley Women, said: “I’m really looking forward to the new season, I feel we’ve learnt a lot in pre-season and we’re ready.

The team need experience of playing in front of crowds so whilst their home is Accrington Stanley Community Trust, they also need to allow larger crowds in and gain some experience playing stadiums locally, so our new deal with Padiham FC is ideal. This will allow them to play 11 fixtures at Accrington Stanley Community Trust, and 9 fixtures at the Ruby Civil Arena in Padiham this season.

Bryn Tracey, our Head Coach has high expectations for the team, and playing here will help to build their confidence in front of crowds. The team really learned a lot from playing at Bury’s Gigg Lane in pre-season, in a large stadium.

We’re looking to continue the success of the Lionesses at club level, and allow women’s football to prosper!”

The Ruby Civil Arena is located on Arbories Avenue, Padiham, Burnley BB12 8LB. Kick off is at 2pm, tickets cost £3 per adult and £1 for under 18s and you can pay on the door. Food and refreshments are available and the bar is open!
