Healthier Hyndburn’ campaign announced in response to new Government Roadmap

The new strategy outlined by Central Government sets out a roadmap to existing lockdown measures being eased in a safe and measured way. Part of this allows unlimited outdoor exercise and leisure time, whilst maintaining strict social distancing.

Hyndburn Council, coming together with the Hyndburn Hub, with support from MP Sara Britcliffe is announcing the Healthier Hyndburn initiative – to celebrate the local area and encourage people to use the tools available for their own wellbeing during the covid-19 pandemic.

Cllr Miles Parkinson OBE, Leader of Hyndburn Council, said:

“We are encouraging all Hyndburn residents to stay at home as much as possible, and to take their exercise locally. We are very fortunate to have many areas of natural beauty right on our doorstep that are ideal for people to exercise, get fresh air and enjoy the outdoors, whilst of course observing the social distancing guidelines.

In response to the advice from Central Government which allows more outdoor time for our residents we are pleased to launch the ‘Healthier Hyndburn’ campaign that will showcase and celebrate our borough.”

The Healthier Hyndburn campaign will run throughout the remainder of this month (May) and invite Hyndburn residents to engage and share their outdoor adventures and keeping healthy ideas. Harnessing the power of existing local organisations and voluntary groups, the campaign will share information about all aspects of staying healthy, including mental health, nutritional awareness and keeping active.

Cllr Marlene Haworth, Leader of the Opposition said:

“During this difficult time, it is important to look after our emotional and physical wellbeing. The Healthy Hyndburn Campaign will highlight the many areas of support available on our doorstep and also give people the tools to identify if others may need support and how they can access this.”

Sara Britcliffe, MP for Hyndburn and Haslingden added:

“As a Hyndburn resident myself I know how lucky we are to live in an area with so much outdoor space available. I am looking forward to getting involved with celebrating this and joining our community in focussing on our overall health during this difficult time.

Through the unity of Hyndburn Council, myself as the MP and also the Hyndburn Hub we have the opportunity to make a real difference and bring vital information plus a positive message to each and every Hyndburn resident.”

Lyndsey Sims, CEO of Hyndburn Leisure Trust and Hyndburn Hub Lead said:

“The Hyndburn Hub has evolved over the last two months to offer a full holistic approach to the wellbeing of our residents during the Covid-19 crisis. Along-side providing essential services such as deliveries of vital supplies like food and prescriptions, the Hyndburn Hub has over 40 organisations under its umbrella.

The Healthier Hyndburn campaign will showcase this offering, letting residents know that we are available for support in all areas of health and that looking after residents is the number one priority for all.”

It is important that people continue to follow the Government Guidelines and stay informed in the event of any changes as we progress along the roadmap to recovery.

The core message of Stay at Home when possible remains at the forefront.

  • Lockdown has not been lifted
  • Strict social distancing is still necessary
  • Do not invite others to your house or visit other households
  • If you do leave your house remain 2m apart from others
  • All individuals are encouraged to wear non-medical face coverings when entering enclosed public places or using public transport

Cllr Miles Parkinson OBE added:

“As a Council we continue to work closely alongside our partners and many organisations as we tackle this pandemic. Thank you to the people of our Borough who have followed guidelines and made sacrifices to help us all. We are urging this commitment to continue as we work together to contain and prevent the spread of Covid-19.”
