This year the Mayoral Charity Fund will support the Hyndburn Hub who are working to assist vulnerable people in the borough during the current crisis.

Mayor of Hyndburn, Cllr June Harrison, said:

“As Mayor for Hyndburn I am pleased to announce the launch of a Just Giving page in support of the Hyndburn Mayoral Charity Fund which this year will be supporting the various charities and voluntary groups who are working with, or under the umbrella of the Hyndburn Hub.

By uniting together as a community, we are stronger. My thanks goes to all those working and volunteering for the Hub, you are making a true difference.”

The Hyndburn Hub is part of a nationwide network of community hubs formed by Central Government in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Encompassing over 30 community groups the Hub has so far supported over 2,000 vulnerable people within the Borough, delivered over 4,000 meals and has almost 200 registered volunteers.

Maundy Relief, Hyndburn Leisure Trust, Ynot Aspire, Onward, Community Solutions, Homewise, Hyndburn Food Bank and Baxenden Buddies are just some of the organisations and voluntary groups that have joined forces to be part of the Hub.

Sara Britcliffe, MP for Hyndburn and Haslingden said:

“The number of groups under the umbrella of the Hyndburn Hub is increasing by the day and I am very grateful to all those dedicating their time and resources to help our most vulnerable residents. The Just Giving page will be a huge help to this, many people want to offer their assistance to the Hub but are busy working themselves or maybe have to isolate. This announcement of support from the Mayoral Charity Fund means we can accept donations online and people know it will be going directly back into our community, to those who need it the most.”

Miles Parkinson OBE, Leader of Hyndburn Council, said:

“Myself, The Mayor and MP are all united in backing this drive to raise vital funds which will provide much needed help to Hyndburn people during this difficult time. The crisis has had, and will continue to have, a large economic impact, meaning some will struggle to feed their families. We are making sure help is in place and fully support the important work of the Hub.

The money raised will be allocated by the Hyndburn Hub to the community groups that have urgent need, for example those providing essential supplies such as food. Through the Hub we can be responsive to the needs of the wider community and offer support for a variety of things that may arise during this unprecedented time.”

The Mayor, MP and Leader are encouraging all those who are able to support the Just Giving page to please do so. Individuals can support through many ways, including donations and also through sharing the great work of the Hyndburn Hub team or encouraging others to donate.
