Halloween in Accrington saw children and their parents take part in the first-ever Trick or Treat Week held in the town.

Hosted by #AmazingAccrington and sponsored by Duckworths Estate Agents, Accrington and Rossendale College and Hyndburn Council, the Trick or Treat week gave children under the age of 12 the chance to enter into a prize draw to win an Amazon Kindle Fire.

Stamps were provided to 23 shops throughout the town and children had to collect a stamp from at least ten outlets to be entered to win.

Paul Bloor, Managing Director of Celebrate Gifts, said: “There were lots of excited children running around Accrington in Halloween costumes visiting shops. It was a really good atmosphere, creating a buzz about the town. It was lovely to be a part of it.”

The competition saw many entries, with the first prize of an Amazon Kindle Fire, donated by Scott Dawson Advertising, going to Demi Aspinall. Miley Clayton came second and was given a family ticket to pantomime ‘Return to Narnia – The Last Battle’, donated by Hyndburn Leisure Trust, which mum Kelly says they look forward to attending and Zoya Ali took third place, winning a smashing Sweet Hamper donated by Celebrate Gifts.

Sue Dawson of Scott Dawson Advertising, who organised the event, commented: “It was a fabulous turn out for Accrington’s inaugural Trick or Treat Week event. I was simply amazed at the number of cards fully filled in too with all 23 stamps collected, as children were only expected to get 10 stamps to be entered. I think this is a testament to how much the children were enjoying it and it will definitely be on the event plan next year!”

Kimberley Gahan, Sales Negotiator at Duckworths Estate Agents, added: “We had a lot of children visiting our shop throughout the week. A few were dropping sweets on the floor as they couldn’t carry all that they had collected. It was fabulous to see the fun. ”

Described by Janet Flanagan, Information Centre Manager, as being “a great idea for the town”, though this year’s Trick or Treat Week was the first, it certainly won’t be the last.
